Discover Okame

If you're looking for a cozy spot to enjoy delicious Japanese comfort food in the heart of Osaka, Okame is the place to be. Nestled at 1 Chome-1-8 Namba, Chuo Ward, Osaka, it offers both locals and visitors a warm and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant is well-loved for its unique blend of traditional dishes and modern touches, making it a must-visit for anyone exploring this vibrant city.

Walking into Okame, you immediately get a sense of what sets it apart from other dining options in the area. The intimate setting, combined with the friendly staff, creates an experience that feels both welcoming and authentic. The decor, though modern, has hints of traditional Japanese elements that perfectly complement the food served. Whether you're a regular or a first-time guest, you'll feel like part of the family.

What truly makes Okame stand out is its menu. Drawing inspiration from Osaka’s rich culinary history, the restaurant excels in offering a variety of dishes that cater to different tastes. A local favorite is their okonomiyaki, a savory pancake filled with various ingredients like pork, seafood, and cabbage. It's a dish that's both hearty and satisfying, and Okame’s version is particularly memorable due to its perfect balance of flavors and textures. For those unfamiliar, okonomiyaki is often referred to as "Japanese pizza," but this dish offers so much more than what you might expect.

In addition to their signature okonomiyaki, Okame is known for its tempura, which comes out perfectly crisp and light. The seafood and vegetables are fried to perfection, and the accompanying dipping sauce enhances the flavors beautifully. If you're in the mood for something more filling, the donburi bowls are another excellent choice. They feature tender pieces of meat or seafood served over a bed of warm rice, topped with a flavorful sauce. It's comfort food at its finest.

Aside from the food, the service at Okame is exceptional. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable, always happy to offer recommendations or explain any dish on the menu. This level of customer care is one of the reasons why Okame has garnered such a loyal following. The owners and staff take great pride in their work, ensuring that each guest feels valued and leaves with a smile.

For anyone who enjoys trying a variety of flavors, Okame also offers set menus, which allow you to sample several dishes at once. These sets are perfect for newcomers who may want to explore the breadth of what Okame has to offer without committing to a single dish. And if you're visiting during the evening, you can pair your meal with a selection of local sakes or beers, adding another layer of enjoyment to your dining experience.

One of the things that has made Okame a staple in Osaka is its consistent quality. Whether it's the tender cuts of meat in their yakitori or the delicate balance of ingredients in their ramen, every dish is made with care and attention to detail. Many visitors mention that the food always tastes fresh, and it’s clear that the kitchen takes pride in sourcing high-quality ingredients.

Okame also has an impressive reputation online, with numerous reviews praising both the food and the atmosphere. Many diners appreciate the quiet, unpretentious vibe of the restaurant, which allows them to relax and enjoy their meal without any distractions. It’s the kind of place that feels like a hidden gem, offering an authentic taste of Osaka without the hustle and bustle of larger, more tourist-centric spots.

Located in the Namba district, Okame is in a prime spot for those exploring the city. Whether you're out shopping or sightseeing, the restaurant is easily accessible and offers a perfect pit stop to recharge with a delicious meal. Given its central location and unbeatable food, it's no surprise that this local favorite continues to draw crowds from near and far.

The menu at Okame is a perfect reflection of the restaurant’s dedication to quality and tradition. It's not just about eating a meal-it's about experiencing the rich flavors of Japan in a comfortable and relaxed setting. If you’re ever in Osaka and craving some comforting, flavorful dishes, Okame should be at the top of your list. The combination of excellent food, great service, and a welcoming environment ensures that every visit is an unforgettable one.

  • A small yet cozy local oden spot tucked away in the backstreets of bustling Dotonbori, right next to a little temple that shouldn’t be missed! The owner, a kind lady, did her best to serve us despite the language barrier. Her food was fantastic, full of warmth and comfort. The ambience was cozy, with a lovely local vibe. We ordered 13 pieces of oden, 2 bowls of beef stew, 3 highballs, and 1 glass of sake, all for 6,800 Yen. It's the perfect place to unwind and relax after a long day exploring the busy streets of Osaka. P.S. Be sure to go early to grab a seat!

  • What a gem! After a night of constant eating, we found ourselves here as a final stop for a few small dishes. Turns out, the food was so good we ate half the menu and walked our food babies back to the hotel as happy as could be. The locals were accommodating of obvious tourists speaking terrible Japanese. The owner looks to be living her best life - truly fun to witness. It looked like many of the dishes were cooked in the same vat of broth at the same time, which just compounded how delicious and robust the flavor was for all the dishes. We were slurping every last drop of that broth when given the chance. Best tako I’ve had too. Just awesome. Thank you for having us

  • Amazing oden from a sweet lady who looks like she loves her job. The broth was warm and comforting. Feels like you’re being served by your Japanese nonna, I will definitely come back!

  • Cozy place with excellent food and service! Does require some knowledge of Japanese language, but 100% worth it.

  • Come here for the ultimate local experience of oden, drinking and chitchatting. This small homely place is run by a friendly elderly lady that's super patient with travellers and helpful even though she might not speak a single ounce of English. We had oden, highball, sake and some beef stew which were all perfect to end the night with. The atmosphere was cozy and we ended up in light chatter with a regular patron there. They also have grilled items on the menu that we didn't get a chance to try. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who is around the area and looking to get away from the usual crowd of dotonbori. Definitely will come back again. Tip : come earlier as there's very limited capacity!

  • Finally managed to try the oden after passing by multiple times and the restaurant is always packed. The restaurant opens at 4.30pm and closes by 9pm. Operated by an elderly couple who are very patient with us while we struggled with the Japanese menu. Ordered a few regular items like the daikon, cabbage rolls, fish cake, konnyaku, fried tofu and others. Highly recommended is the cabbage rolls. The cabbage is boiled till soft and infused with the umami from soup.
